South Australia Works is a workforce development strategy established by the South Australian government. It applies a pro-active approach to skills development and workforce retention that creates an efficient, highly skilled and inclusive workforce.

South Australia Works links people with skills and jobs. It brings together education, training and employment services to ensure all South Australians have the opportunity to develop work skills and get a job. By working in partnership with all levels of government, industry and the community, South Australia Works:

• Provides training and employment opportunities for people who are having trouble improving their skills or finding a job;
• Assists local communities to address the learning and work needs of individuals within their communities;
• Helps maximize the number of jobs associated with industry and government plans and projects; and
• Links businesses with the skilled workers they need.

South Australia Works – in the Region helps regional organisations and networks to identify their region’s training and employment needs, and to address them in ways appropriate to each region.

South Australia Works – in the Region focuses on the needs of:

• Mature aged people- providing training, upskilling and employment programs for mature aged workers and job seekers;
• Young people – giving young people skills and opportunities to move successfully from school, further education and training or unemployment, into stable, rewarding work;
• Indigenous people – providing support, job training, work placements, recruitment, leadership, training, career enhancement and traineeships and apprenticeships;
• People with a Disability – providing support, training, work placements and community and employer education to assist disabled people into stable and rewarding work;
• Industry – identifying new employment and training possibilities and develop the skills sets of people to meet emerging workforce needs; and
• Communities – creating opportunities for learning for individuals in their communities.

South Australia Works in the Regions operates through seventeen Employment and Workforce Development Networks. These Networks consist of people from the local community, industry, regional economic bodies and Commonwealth, State and Local Governments.

Employment and Workforce Development Networks have been established to:

• Consult with the local community on employment and training issues;
• Develop partnerships which ensure that all the expertise and resources available in the regions are used; and
• Develop regional Employment and Workforce Development Plans that address the local training and employment needs of individuals and industry.

Regional Development Australia - Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu & Kangaroo Island manages the South Australia Works - in the Regions program for the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Regions.

The Adelaide Hills Region covers the Adelaide Hills Council and the District Council of Mt Barker local government areas.

The Fleurie Region covers the Local Government areas of Alexandrina Council, District Council of Yankalilla and City of Victor Harbor.

The Kangaroo Island Region covers Kangaroo Island Council Local Government area.
